Former Crystal Palace owner Simon Jordan believes Arsenal are lacking real leadership and doesn’t feel they can spend according this summer to fix it.

Speaking on Twitter, Simon said that Arsenal appear unable to buy leaders and Wenger doesn’t seem to be able to instil the quality in his current crop of players, which leaves the Gunners in a difficult situation with the end of the window approaching.

Arsenal were missing any leaders on the pitch at Anfield on Sunday, as the Gunners slipped to a 4-0 loss to Liverpool. Club captain Per Mertesacker has shown plenty of leadership qualities in the last few months, but for some reason he continues to miss out on a place in the team.

Players simply aren’t stepping up to take responsibility at the moment. There’s been plenty of arm-waving at other people when goals go in and not much to resolve the issue on the next occasion.

Sead Kolašinac looked like he could add a physical presence and a toughness to the side, but so far he hasn’t started one game in his preferred position and didn’t play at all against Liverpool.

Signing a vocal player like Southampton’s Virgil van Dijk would go some way to solving the problem. But the players already with the Gunners need to do more. A lot more.
