Former Arsenal striker Kevin Campbell has told the Daily Cannon that Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is “worth every penny” of the reported £125k-per-week contract offer being mooted.

Oxlade-Chamberlain is currently in the midst of a contract dispute with Arsenal and has shown little sign of extending this summer – meaning he’ll leave on a free in the summer of 2018.

The Gunners would reportedly be willing to offer Chamberlain £125,000 per week to stay at the club, a figure that former Arsenal, Everton and West Brom striker Kevin Campbell believes is fair.

We reported yesterday that the 24-year-old is holding a meeting with Arsene Wenger today to discuss his future. The Arsenal manager has made public his desire to keep Oxlade-Chamberlain at the club.

A wage of £125,000 per week would make Chamberlain one the highest earners at Arsenal, putting him in a bracket with Alexis Sanchez, Mesut Ozil, Petr Cech and Aaron Ramsey, earning £6.5m-a-year.

His worth to the club has been the subject of debate, with some fans feeling he doesn’t justify such money given he’s not a regular starting over the entire course of a season, nor does he greatly contribute to the club’s success.

Chelsea have been heavily linked with the English international and could make an offer to sign should he continue to refuse to sign an extension at Arsenal – I believe a £35m bid was hinted this summer. Wenger has been clear, however, that he won’t sell any of his stars and would be willing to let them run down their contracts.
