Young Everton forward Dominic Calvert-Lewin has told Koeman that he should pick him instead of a big money signing, according to the Daily Star.

Calvert-Lewin has had something of a breakthrough year.

First, he made his Everton debut as a substitute in the win over Arsenal at Goodison Park.

Then, after some time out injured, he scored his first league goal in March, signed a five-year deal in May, scored the winning goal in the U-20 World Cup final in June, and is now back and scoring for Everton in their Europa League qualifiers.

It was the U-20 World Cup goal in particular that Dominic feels has helped put him on the map a bit more, especially in the area around the club, and coming from his background being recognised and stopped in the shops is a bit of a shock for him.

It’s all been a bit of a whirlwind for the player, but Everton are now apparently interested in new signings like Gylfi Sigurdsson and Arsenal’s Olivier Giroud. This could see Calvert-Lewin pushed further down the pecking order again, and the Daily Star claim that he is trying to show he can fill the positions without Everton having to spend the money.

He talked in their article about needing to take advantage of what he’s achieved so far to build on it, saying: “It is down to me to kick on with that. With scoring a goal of that importance there comes a lot of, I won’t say there is expectation, but people are more aware of who I am.”

But Koeman has apparently warned the player that he plans to bring in another striker before the end of the window, although the Daily Star haven’t got any quotes to support this claim.

In any case, Giroud seems to have settled a bit after the initial disappointment at seeing Arsenal appear to replace him with Alexandre Lacazette, as there haven’t been any further quotes from the player or strong rumours of discontent.

So for now, it seems that he’s most likely to stay with the club.
