Cohen Bramall has had a rise to fame unlike many others in the footballing world at the moment, and he’s talked about how it’s all gone so far.

At the start of 2017 Cohen has just been let go by his employers at a Bentley car factory, whilst playing for non-league club Hednesford Town. Next he was at a trial with Sheffield Wednesday, and a day later training with the Arsenal first team.

After a steady start to his Arsenal career, making nine appearances for the U23 team, scoring one goal and adding three assists, Cohen was a bit of a surprise inclusion in the pre-season tour of China and Australia.

With Kieran Gibbs seeming to be on the way out at the time, and Monreal/Kolašinac needed for centre-back cover, Cohen had the opportunity to get himself some first team action, and play alongside the likes of Mesut Özil, Granit Xhaka and Petr Čech in a proper (friendly) match for the first time.

Bramall put in some decent performances before the team returned to the UK, and the 22-year-old returned to U23 action to allow Kolašinac to get ready for what will likely be his position this season.

In an interview with FourFourTwo, Bramall talked about swapping a car factory for Arsenal Football Club. He said that his aims last season were just to get a new job and finish strongly with Hednesford Town, and that he enjoyed working at Bentley.

But after being let go he started to wonder if maybe he could get a deal at a full-time club, pushed on by his former manager. He told FourFourTwo: “My previous manager, Liam McDonald drilled it into me that I was the best left-back in the National League, so thanks to him. If it wasn’t for him, I might not be here.”

Cohen didn’t feel quite at home at first, but is starting to get the hang of things now: “A lot of Arsenal’s players have been brought up on proper technical training sessions, whereas I’d grown up kicking a ball against a fence with my mates.

“The first few weeks were hard and mentally tough. I’d never seen a mannequin in my life and then I was training with mannequins, cones and all sorts of equipment. I’ve got the gist of it now.”

Hopefully Bramall can continue to push on with the academy, and when his chances come in competitions like the League Cup, he can take those too.
