Calum Chambers reportedly expects that he’ll stay at Arsenal now following the £10m sale of Gabriel to Valencia.

Despite having three years still on his current Arsenal deal, Chambers has been heavily linked with a move away from the club this summer. However, according to Ed Aarons, who’s deputy news editor of Guardian Sport, it appears that the defender no longer expects this to happen, given that the Gunners have shipped Gabriel off to Valencia.

The former Southampton defender, who hasn’t played for Arsenal’s first team in the Premier League for over a year, was left out of the squad to face Stoke last weekend and is apparently suffering from a groin strain but expected to return to the fold after the international break at the beginning of September.

Chambers, who impressed while loan at Middlesbrough last season, is allegedly striving for first team football and, at the age of 22, didn’t see that happening at Arsenal. Not with other centre-backs, such as Gabriel, in the way, anyway.

Now, that’s no problem for the England u21 international.

Chambers has made 59 appearances for Arsenal’s first team since joining in 2014, with his ‘best’ Premier League season being his first in north London when he featured 23 times.

Therefore, you can understand why he’s angling for more game time. Hopefully he’ll get it.

Chambers was previously linked with a move to Crystal Palace.
