With Gabriel reportedly set to leave Arsenal this summer, Arsene Wenger could be forced to change his stance on Calum Chambers… if he hasn’t already.

The story that Gabriel is set to be signing for Valencia for £10m very soon is progressing quickly and, as a result, Wenger could reportedly be forced to rethink his stance on Chambers, since the 22-year-old was supposedly heading for the exit this summer.

Despite only signing from Southampton three years ago, Chambers was thought to be seeking a move somewhere he could get regular first team football.

Crystal Palace appeared to be the main club in the frame and even reportedly made a £16m bid in July but no conclusion was met and with three years left on his current deal, the Gunners appeared to be angling to make a profit on the England u21 international they signed from the Saints.

Since moving to north London, Chambers has made 59 appearances (including the Community Shield) totaling 3,617 minutes. That’s around 61 minutes per appearance.

Last season, the young defender was sent out on loan to Middlesbrough where he had a great time, featuring 26 times, scoring once and assisting once.

With Gabriel going, it stands to reason that someone else will be staying and there’s every reason to speculate that Chambers will be that someone.
