Petr Cech has praised the impact of Arsenal’s substitutes this season, after seeing them making a huge contribution in recent games.

Despite having only played two games, Arsenal’s substitutes are already making a significant difference by scoring three of the club’s five goals so far.

In the Community Shield against Chelsea, it was early sub Sead Kolasinac who scored Arsenal’s equaliser and took the game to a penalty shootout.

Then, against Leicester last Friday, Aaron Ramsey and Olivier Giroud came on as second half subs and both scored to help Arsenal to three points.

Captain during the Leicester game, Petr Cech has lauded the impact of Arsenal’s subs. “I think Oli showed [his importance] here,” he said to Arsenal.com. “Aaron came on as a sub, he scored. Olivier came on as a sub, he scored. You need everybody.

“In the Community Shield, I felt that the lads who came on really helped us. After Mertesacker got injured, Sead came on and today he had another good game, a strong game.”

That Arsenal have managed to win both games with a depleted squad by calling upon such strong reserves is testament to their strength in depth. Arsenal still have plenty to work on but Cech is pleased with what he’s seen so far.

“It’s good to see and as well we had some players still not available so it’s important to keep the squad together.

“I think the positive is that we managed to win the game [against Leicester]. We scored four goals, we were twice in a very difficult situation and we got out of that and that is very positive.

“Obviously you don’t want to concede three goals, especially when you play at home because in this league you give yourself a mountain to climb. We need to do better but we have to be happy with a win.”

The likes of Laurent Koscielny, Per Mertesacker, Shkodran Mustafi, Gabriel, Francis Coquelin and Alexis Sanchez are still to return to the Arsenal squad. Provided the Gunners keep hold of the players they want, they should have a strong squad this season.
