Birmingham City are trying to sign Jack Wilshere on loan, according to reports.

Jim White of Sky Sports and Graeme Bailey of The Gambling Times are both reporting that Birmingham are trying to complete their third loan move of the summer from Arsenal – having already secured the signatures of Cohen Bramall and Carl Jenkinson this summer.

You can certainly see why Birmingham want Jack Wilshere and think that the move is worth a shot. When the 25-year-old is at his best, he is a fantastic addition to many teams, I believe, but especially one in the Championship.

However, I would have reservations about this move going through from Arsenal’s point of view. Wilshere only has a year left on his contract and therefore going on loan would probably require him to sign a new deal.

If he didn’t, Arsenal could lose him for free next summer and get no value out of him in the transfer market. A permanent deal would be more suitable, if he leaves at all.

The Gunners may not want to sell one of their most experienced midfielders after Sunday’s midfield showing, however. Also, from Wilshere’s point of view, going to play in the Championship when you’ve just had a promising loan in the Premier League may seem like a backwards step.
