Arsene Wenger revealed his hopes to extend the contracts of Alexis Sanchez, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Mesut Ozil, with the trio in the last year of their respective deals at Arsenal.

Speaking to beIN Sports via the Mirror, Wenger said: “We always hope, even now, that we can extend the contracts of (Alexis) Sanchez, Chamberlain and (Mesut) Ozil. Yes, of course (they will not be sold). I think it looks unusual to the media sometimes that clubs want the contract to be respected.”

Alexis Sanchez, linked with Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester City, has so far rejected improved terms on a new contract, with reports that Arsenal have offered £300k-per-week but the player is holding out for £400k-per-week. His reasons for wanting to leave the club are also down to ambition.

Mesut Ozil rejected a previous contract with Arsenal, but after the interest in his signature died down, he’s been more open to sign a new deal at the Emirates Stadium, perhaps because Arsenal can give him a sizeable payrise, I feel.

As for Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, linked with Chelsea, he’s reportedly asked for £150k-per-week, which Arsenal may not pay, it seems. The midfielder has been a good servant to Arsenal but is still not a first-team regular so meeting those demands and him sitting on the bench wouldn’t be good business.

With Wenger also saying neither player would be sold this summer, Arsenal don’t appear likely to cash in despite rumours of the contrary. I think, the plan will be to offer contracts to each of them again this season and hope they change their minds on signing.
