Arsenal U23s take on Manchester City U23s at the Emirates Stadium tonight in the Premier League 2.

Arsenal’s youngsters play their first game at the Emirates Stadium this season against Manchester City, reports Arsenal.com. Arsenal are looking to build off a dramatic 3-2 win over Derby County last time out.

A mixed team of youngsters and fringe players, with several players out of position, managed to come back from 2-0 down thanks to three second half goals from Reiss Nelson and Eddie Nketiah.

Nelson is the undoubted attraction of this game. After a highly impressive pre-season, he bagged two of the U23s’ goals against Derby despite playing as a right wing back. Joe Willock and Eddie Nketiah, who also featured for Arsenal in pre-season, are expected to play as well.

Steve Gatting’s side have used the same 3-4-2-1 as the first team have, and as a result we could see a number of players out of position again. Against Derby, Cohen Bramall and Ainsley Maitland-Niles played alongside Krystian Bielik in the back three, while Nelson continued as a wing-back.

Arsenal could repeat the trick on Monday, though it may depend on the availability of certain first team players. Kieran Gibbs took Bramall’s left wing-back spot against Derby and may feature there again despite looking to leave the club. Mathieu Debuchy and Carl Jenkinson could also be involved.

Also of note will be Jack Wilshere, who will feature again as he looks to regain his fitness. Last week, he lined-up with Francis Coquelin in midfield, but with the Frenchman returning to first team action we could see a different partner. As for the visitors, City will be looking for their first win of the season after a 0-0 draw with Chelsea.

One notable absentee could be Jadon Sancho, as the winger has been embroiled in a contract dispute. He’s been linked with Arsenal during the summer. Talented midfielder Phil Foden could feature, however, after impressing on tour with City.
