Arsenal scouts Francis Cagigao and Everton Gushiken were photographed at a match between Cruzeiro and Gremio this week.

The match was the semi-final second leg of the Copa do Brasil, and Cruzeiro won 1-0 in 90 minutes. This left the scores level at 1-1 on aggregate, sending the game to penalties, which Cruzeiro won 3-2.

101greatgoals.com report that the scouts were watching Brazilian striker Luan. Luan has scored 11 goals and provided five assists in 22 matches for Gremio in 2017, and his contract runs for another year, until September 2018, due to the different format of the seasons in Brazil.

The 24-year-old also picked up his first international minutes this year, making his debut for the national side in January. However, if the scouts were there to see how he performs in the big games, they may have been disappointed.

Luan didn’t manage to score over the two legs and missed the decisive penalty which lost his team the match. Although Arsenal are no strangers to players who can’t score penalties, it’s certainly not a positive sign.

The Brazilian generally players as a secondary striker in the Gremio team, although he has also played at centre-forward and on the right-wing, showing some level of versatility.

But overall nothing has been confirmed about why the scouts were at the game, and it could just as easily have been simply that the semi-final of the cup is a high-profile match that they would be expected to watch.
