Arsenal are once again offering small women’s teams the chance to become a Sister Club for another season.

You can now once again apply to become a FA WSL Sister Club.

The FA WSL Sister Club programme aims to help develop young women’s football clubs from a grassroots level in order to get more girls excited about the sport.

It works to offer them more opportunities, support and guidance, as well as merchandise and the even the chance to meet professional players.

The programme was launched in 2016 when £100k was invested. Arsenal, Birmingham City, Bristol City, Doncaster Rovers Belles, Everton, Notts County, Oxford United, Reading, Sheffield FC, Sunderland and Yeovil were the 11 teams to take part.

“It’s fantastic that there are so many girls who now aspire to play for Arsenal Ladies and this programme is a way to identify a clear route for the players who want to reach the top level,” Arsenal legend, Kelly Smith, said back in June.

The programme has now also been granted a tier 1 status by the FA and can offer a range of benefits, depending on which package the Sister Club selections.

As per the Arsenal website, you can receive:

  • Tickets to Arsenal Women games
  • An Arsenal Women player as a club ambassador
  • Matchday experiences
  • Coach development opportunities
  • Access to the Arsenal Women Sister Club festival
  • Online Resources, session plans and coaching advice

In a sport still dominated by men, it’s fantastic to see the FA WSL doing what they can to bring women’s football to the forefront and get young girls, who may not otherwise get the opportunity to get this level of expertise, to love the game.

It also gets more people to current FA WSL matches.

The girls in these Sister Clubs are the future of the sport and it’s fantastic to see football doing everything it can to protect that.
