Arsenal reportedly rejected a loan offer for Shkodran Mustafi from Inter Milan last week.

Inter allegedly offered to take Mustafi on loan last week but Arsenal are said to be waiting for the Serie A club to put down an offer of £35m before considering letting him leave, the Daily Star reports. The outlet claims that the defender is finding it hard to settle in and make friends at at the club.

The Gunners paid Valencia the same amount for the 25-year-old last summer, which is just one of the handful of reasons that makes this story seem like a bit of a stretch.

Last week, it was claimed that the Italians had already made a £35m bid for the centre-back and now it’s being said that they instead wanted to take him on loan.

This is just one year after Arsene Wenger signed him and made the German a first team player. Last season, he made 37 appearances over all competitions, even scoring twice and assisting the same amount. This term, he’s already played 90 minutes despite his late involvement in the Confederations Cup over the summer.

Therefore, Wenger allowing him to leave, especially when he has four years left on his current deal, Gabriel has just signed for Valencia, and Per Mertesacker has just one year left before he retires from playing, is just bizarre.

The report claims that Mustafi has found it hard to make friends at the club, despite the defender already being buddies with fellow German international, Mesut Ozil, before he even came to the club…
