Arsenal face Liverpool at Anfield in the Gunners’ third match of the season on Sunday.

After the disappointment of yet another loss away at Stoke, Arsenal have the chance to put things right (or make the situation even worse) against Liverpool.

Last season Arsenal lost both of their matches against the club from Merseyside, although there were some mitigating circumstances. For one, Alexis Sanchez only played 45 minutes of the two matches despite being Arsenal’s key man last season.

Also, the defence that conceded four at the Emirates involved a centre-back pairing of Calum Chambers and Rob Holding, who had never played a competitive match together and who were both still u21s.

Team News

No such excuses this time, as Laurent Koscielny is back from his suspension along with Shkodran Mustafi and Per Mertesacker. Monreal, Kolašinac, Holding and Chambers are all also up for selection.

Alexis Sanchez has returned at last from the Confederations Cup and subsequent injury problems, so he should be available this time around as well.

Coquelin and Jack Wilshere are both fit and available, but still haven’t played a senior match since their injuries, so this may not be the time to bring them back in to the starting line-up.

With all that in mind, here’s my predicted starting XI:

(3-4-2-1): Čech; Koscielny, Mertesacker, Mustafi; Kolašinac, Xhaka, Ramsey, Oxlade-Chamberlain; Alexis, Özil; Lacazette.

The Opposition

Liverpool are fresh off the back of a very convincing 4-2 win in the second-leg of their Champions League qualifier against Hoffenheim. They’ve also beaten Crystal Palace and Hoffenheim again in the past couple of weeks, but slipped up on the opening day to draw with Watford.

New signing Mohamed Salah seems to have settled in well, matching Lacazette with a Premier League debut goal. Sadio Mané and Roberto Firmino are also in good form, scoring and assisting once each in Liverpool’s last two matches.

How To Watch

The match kicks off at 16:00 UK time on Sunday 26th August.

If you live in the UK, the TV channel showing the match is Sky Sports Main Events. For all other countries, see the list below from LiveOnSat.com:
