Arsenal have once again been linked with a move for Real Madrid striker, Karim Benzema, as Zinedine Zidane looks to trim his squad.
Despite Arsene Wenger insisting dozens of times that Arsenal will keep Alexis Sanchez even though the Chilean’s running into the final year of his contract, Spanish outlet Diaro Gol are reporting that the boss would prefer to sell him this summer and is eyeing Benzema (who else?) as his replacement.
Real are said to be eager to offload players and since Benzema hasn’t been that consistent under Zidane, only scoring 11 goals in 29 La Liga appearances last term, he’s the first name being linked with a move.
Arsenal have supposedly been interest in Benzema for years so naturally they’re said to be interested in taking him off Real Madrid’s hands now that they’re apparently willing to let him go.
The 29-year-old isn’t at his best anymore and replacing Alexis with him seems like a bit of an odd move since Benzema is an out-and-out striker while the Chilean’s more versatile and actually prefers to play out wide.
Also, while there was a time that Benzema was a more prolific striker than Olivier Giroud, Big Sexy appears to be going from strength-to-strength. Is it really worth paying more money for another striker that’s not currently any better than who we’ve already got?
Benzema has two years left on his deal in Spain.
