Arsenal have won the Community Shield for the 15th time after beating Chelsea 4-1 on penalties at Wembley.
Arsenal beating Chelsea, even if it’s only technically a friendly, is always a momentous occasion.
I think it’s because we spent so many years, mainly when our London rivals were ruled by Jose Mourinho, losing to them, it still feels like a novelty to actually win.
The match itself wasn’t anything particularly special. Although Arsenal started the stronger side and had great moments, so did Chelsea, so it was different to the FA Cup final which saw the Gunners dominate their way to a 2-1 victory.
Sead Kolasinac scored his first goal for Arsenal, and Theo Walcott, Nacho Monreal, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Olivier Giroud all netted their penalties.
Overall, it was a solid enough performance, which saw us get the new season off to a win. And, if you’re Mourinho, a trophy.
So, how did Gooners react on Twitter? Much like the Arsenal fans at Wembley.
It’s hard to get too excited about the new season because there’s still work which needs to be done and it’ll be dangerous if we just go into the 2017/18 campaign thinking we’re all set. However, it’s a good victory against good opposition who, last year, won the title comfortably.
We’ve always criticised the team for more having that ‘winners mentality’. Well, hopefully that’s changed.

It's all about winning. Doesn't matter what trophy…just breed a winning culture. Great for new & young players to taste #Wembley win!

Good performance, particularly with the players we had missing. Team looks in shape for the league to kick off.

Arsene Wenger has managed to win 6 trophies in 4 years whilst everyone around was and still is calling for his sacking. Impressive stuff.

Arsenal set to win more trophies at Spurs' ground than them, no change there then

9 wins in a row at Wembley. Only fair @Arsenal start letting other clubs win. Liverpool, Spurs etc have been starved of success for so long.
