One of the many supporters experiencing the emotional rollercoaster of Arsenal’s opening league game on Friday was Alex Iwobi’s father.

Chuka Iwobi, who also lives in London like his son Alex, was in the crowd watching the Gunners’ opening game against Leicester City.

The match was the perfect advertisement for the Premier League in terms of entertainment, and there’s no doubt Arsenal are value for money for the neutral if nothing else.

Chuka looked just as delighted and relieved as the rest of us as he posted pictures with goalscorer Alexandre Lacazette and Nacho Monreal on Facebook after the game. The Nigerian added the caption: “Arsenal 4 versus Leicester 3. Difficult game, but good start to the season.” (As reported by CompleteSportsNigeria.com)

Alex didn’t feature in the match, although he was on the bench for the Gunners and played a large part in the Community Shield match against Chelsea the previous weekend.

But according to the Complete Sports website, the Iwobi family are keen to watch every game Alex may be involved in, inviting others to their home to watch Arsenal matches. Hopefully, Iwobi appreciates the support and uses it to spur him on to a strong season with the Gunners.

Although the Nigerian international had a strong pre-season on tour with Arsenal, scoring a couple of goals and putting in some good performances, whether he can retain his place will depend on a number of factors, with plenty of competition in the forward positions.

Still only 21, there should be no rush for the academy product, and he just needs to continue to take the opportunities as they come.
