Arsenal are reportedly still confident that Alexis Sanchez will stay at the club for another season and could even sign a new deal despite his recent comments about Champions League football.

The general feeling among the Arsenal camp is that Alexis will still see out the remaining year of his contract in north London, according to the Daily Mail.

This isn’t exactly news as this is what Arsene Wenger has always said.

However, what’s interesting is that the Gunners allegedly still feel that the Chilean could sign a new deal with the club.

They supposedly see the fact that Alexis likes London as a sign that he could be persuaded to stay.

story trackerThe 28-year-old had been quiet about his situation at Arsenal for more or less the entire summer so far, delegating – or at least pretending to – all responsibility to his agent. However, while on holiday in his home country, he gave an interview in which he reiterated the importance of Champions League football and made it pretty clear that he doesn’t see his future in north London.

“The decision I have made, I have to wait for Arsenal’s response, it depends on them, what they want, my idea is to play the Champions League and win it,” he said.

“But for now I am in the Arsenal, I finish my contract in one more year.”

Manchester City are the main club in the frame to sign the forward at the moment. However, Arsenal won’t sell to a Premier League rival so Alexis could end up joining them on a free next season.

Bayern Munich and PSG were also said to be interested but the Bundesliga giants were reportedly priced out by Alexis’s wages and PSG have gone quiet.
