Arsene Wenger has explained why he believes that Alexandre Lacazette will fit into Arsenal’s system seamlessly.

Lacazette scored within 15 minutes of his first game for Arsenal against Sydney FC on Thursday and Wenger believes the 26-year-old can play a massive part in the first team going forward.

“He is a player who has the style of play that we want to play,” the boss told Arsenal Player.

“His technical ability, his capacity to combine with other players around the box… He’s not only a goalscorer, he can also provide. We want to play our football based on movement and he has that kind of quality.

“We are a team where pace plays a big part, and the modern game demands a lot of pace in transition from defence to offense. The quality of the runs are vital in that kind of game. The quality of his finishing is also absolutely exceptional. That’s of course important.”

Lacazette scored 37 goals in 45 appearances for Lyon last season and had a 38.9% conversation rate – the best in Europe. Therefore, it stands to reason that while he may not be able to replicate his success in Ligue 1, he can still be deadly for the Gunners.

The Premier League is a different animal to the French league, which opposition fans have been consistently reminding Gooners since Arsenal splashed out a club record of £52m on the France international. However, the skill is there and just because Lacazette may have to bed in doesn’t mean that he can’t be a massive part of Arsenal’s team.

As the forward has already demonstrated in his first appearances for the Gunners, his movement is exceptional.
