Arsene Wenger has denied that Alexis Sanchez told him he wants to leave this summer.

  • Reports claimed that Alexis told Wenger he wants to go
  • Wenger expects Alexis to honour his contract
  • He hopes an extension can be signed during the season

In the latest chapter of the Alexis Sanchez story, Wenger has dismissed reports that the Chilean has told him he wants to leave.

There had been reports that Alexis had informed the club of his intention to leave and join Manchester City to reunite with Pep Guardiola.

However, when asked if this was true, Wenger said, as quoted by RTE: “No.” You have to say, that’s pretty clear cut.

Wenger also hasn’t ruled out Alexis signing a contract extension at some point during next season. “The players come back and we expect them to respect their contracts,” he added.

“Nobody knows today if Sanchez will be in the final year of his contract next season, because he can as well extend his contract with us at the start of the season or during the season, so it’s not necessarily the last year of his contract with Arsenal.”

Arsenal are adamant that Alexis will not be sold to a rival this summer, despite City’s apparent confidence of getting a deal done.
