After reports that Wellington Silva failed his Bordeaux medical and wouldn’t be moving this summer, Arsenal have insisted he is still a Fluminense player.

There has been a great deal of confusion around the potential transfer of Wellington Silva from Fluminense to Bordeaux. The player, who joined Arsenal from the Brazilian club in 2010 but never made a senior appearance due to work permit issues and loans, returned to Fluminense on a permanent deal in 2016.

Originally it was believed that Arsenal had inserted a buy-back clause into the player’s contract, and with Bordeaux interested, they planned to activate the clause, buy Silva back, and sell him on to the French club for a small profit.

Next, early on Tuesday, Bordeaux confirmed that he had failed a medical, and therefore wouldn’t be joining the club, as we reported earlier. However, now Arsenal have reportedly moved to allay fears that he would be stuck with the Gunners.

Arsenal have apparently insisted that the initial reports of a buy-back clause were incorrect, and it was a much simpler sell-on clause they were hoping to profit from.

Unfortunately, it seems this won’t be possible with a transfer to Bordeaux, but at least the Gunners won’t be left with an extra player who doesn’t want to be at the club.
