Former Arsenal striker Yaya Sanogo is happy with his fresh start at Toulouse.

The legend of Yaya Sanogo came to an anti-climatic end this summer when the striker was released by Arsenal. Years of injury problems and failing to impress on loan came to define his time at the Gunners, and he’ll be hoping he can turn things around at Toulouse.

So far, he seems to be pretty happy at his new club. “My goal is to physically restore myself. The rest will come. I go step by step,” he said, as reported by Tribal Football. “My ambition, purely personal, is to regain my physical abilities. Collectively, it’s to have a good season.

“Advice? No, I’m still young. But yes, if I can bring something I will. I played a few matches [with Arsenal]. So why not? I am not someone who will boast of anything. If a young man needs to know things, I would share my experience with him.”

Sanogo was a risky signing for Arsenal after his short career was hampered by serious injuries. There were few players at the club as raw as he was.

The earlier years of Sanogo’s career were more fruitful, having scored five goals in eight appearances for the French U21s, while bagging 10 goals in 13 games before his Arsenal move.

Manager Arsene Wenger took a surprise gamble in bringing him to the Emirates Stadium, but given he was a free transfer and did have some good moments in an Arsenal shirt, he may not have many regrets.

Unfortunately, even Arsenal would never have the patience to refine him into a more competent striker or to give him the chance to regain true fitness. As a result, his departure was inevitable.

With any luck, Toulouse will give him the chance to play and develop as a player without the pressure of playing at a big club.
