James Rodriguez has officially joined Bayern Munich on a two-year loan from Real Madrid.

Sport Bild reporter Christian Falk reported that Bayern will pay an annual loan fee of £4.5m, with a £31m buying option, £40m less than Real origininally paid to sign him from AS Monaco in 2014.

A mega-money signing for Real Madrid after a strong 2014 World Cup showing with Colombia, James has struggled to fit in at the Santiago Bernabeu, making just 13 La Liga starts last season.

Real Madrid aren’t willing to completely let go of someone who recorded 19 goals scored and created in all competitions last season, let alone his talent when given game time. Bayern could sign him permanently for a cut price, however.

Bayern manager Carlo Ancelotti will renew acquaintences with the player he spent £70m to sign three years ago and will be hoping Rodriguez can showcase the qualtiy that led to the club signing him.
