Despite Arsenal losing 2-1 in the Emirates Cup to Sevilla, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain was one of the best players on the pitch.

The Ox, who’s been linked with a move away this summer, was quiet in the first half. He started in the left wing-back position, which he didn’t look comfortable in.

The 23-year-old was given a free-kick to take on the edge of the area but skied it, and it looked as if he was going to have one of those days.

However, in the second half, Hector Bellerin made way on the right and the Ox came into his own.

On the other flank, the England international obviously felt far more comfortable and took on Sevilla players at every opportunity.

The Ox was a key man for Alexandre Lacazette’s first Emirates goal, weaving into the box with the ball glued to his feet, before passing it along the floor to Danny Welbeck, who mis-kicked it to the former Lyon striker.

The Ox’s pace and power, particularly late on in the second half, was practically unrivaled and he drove the rest of the team on.

Although Arsenal couldn’t find a second goal after Steven N’Zonzi fizzed in his worldie, they continued attacking until the final minute, and the Ox had a large part to play in that.

When the Ox is at his best, he’s an exceptional player. However, injury woes have halted his progress. Now that he’s staying fit, he’s seeing his hard work and positive attitude paying off.

He’s big and strong, while being nimble, which is hard to find since usually players are either one or the other.

While he may only have one year left on his current deal and might very well leave, his professionalism shines through.

Hopefully he stays and continues to show what he’s made of in north London.
