Newcastle United have agreed a deal to sign former Arsenal defender Stefan O’Connor, on a reported two-year deal.

  • O’Connor will join Newcastle for free following his release from Arsenal
  • He was released from Arsenal this summer

O’Connor had come through the ranks at Arsenal but only managed one first-team appearance against Galatasaray in the Champions League in the 2014-15 season.

The 20-year-old joined Arsenal from Crystal Palace when he was 13. He had two unsuccessful loan spells at York City and VVV Maastricht before he was released from Arsenal this summer.

According to ESPN, O’Connor will go straight back into a Premier League team and sign for Newcastle United. He’s expected to sign a two-year contract with the newly-promoted Magpies.

O’Connor can play centre-back and right-back and should add depth to Newcastle’s squad. That Newcastle want to sign him suggests that O’Connor does have talent, even if he wasn’t able to fully show it at Arsenal.
