Mesut Ozil’s Instagram was hacked on Sunday evening by someone who either isn’t happy about his new choice of girlfriend… or just wants to cause a little drama.

• Ozil was with German singer Mandy Capristo on-and-off for three years
• Playmaker has controversially been linked with Miss Turkey since 2015
  
• The pair looked close on recent holiday together

The hacker posted an old picture of Ozil with ex-girlfriend, Mandy Capristo, with a caption claiming that he knew he’d ‘messed up’ when it came to his off-on, three-year relationship with the German singer, and stating that he’d always love her.

Ozil has been looking loved up on his recent holiday with Miss Turkey, Amine Gülşe, who appears to be the playmaker’s new girlfriend. Therefore, the hack’s timing is probably no coincidence.

The 28-year-old was quick to take to Twitter to explain that he wasn’t having a funny five minutes and someone had indeed gained access to his Instagram account.

Later he posted a picture together with Gülşe, labeling the stories the press were coming up with off the back of the hacking as ‘fake news’.
