Manchester United are set to sign Bolton’s highly-rated teenager Max Broughton in a £1m deal, beating the likes of Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester City for his signature.

Broughton, 16, caught the eye after impressing for Bolton and England at youth level.

The club’s existing first-team manager, Phil Parkinson, has already stated his belief that Broughton would feature in the Championship this forthcoming season if he does decide to remain with the Trotters.

However, a recent report in The Sun has suggested this will not be the case after all, as Bolton’s close working relationship with United means they’re more likely to sell than reject all advances.

United’s academy manager, Nicky Butt, has already signed a number of youngsters as the Reds are keen to overhaul their squad across all age-groups, having fallen behind some of Europe’s elite in recent seasons.

Aliou Traore (PSG), Di’Shon Bernard (Chelsea) as well as Belgian forward Largie Ramazani and Northern Irish teenager Ethan Gailbraith have all signed deals recently and they’re keen to add Broughton to their list of new arrivals.

Scouted while playing for local side Rossendale United, he was given a trial by Bolton in October three years ago.

He signed scholarship terms in December of 2015 though interest from England’s top-flight clubs has made it virtually impossible for the newly-promoted side to retain one of their most promising youngsters.
