Thomas Lemar’s father reportedly wants him to reject Arsenal in order to stay at Monaco ahead of the World Cup next year.

With the World Cup taking place next year, Lemar’s father reportedly wants the winger to sign a contract extension with Monaco in order to maximise his chances of getting picked for Didier Deschamps’s France squad.

The 21-year-old has already been capped five times for Les Bleus and is supposedly already part of Deschamps’s plans but it seems that his father believes that if Lemar moves to Arsenal, he’ll have less of a chance than if he stays put.

story trackerThe Gunners allegedly had two bids for Lema – one for £31, one for £35m – rejected last week and it seems that the young winger is on Arsene Wenger’s wishlist. However, Monaco aren’t giving him up without a fight having had the likes of Bernardo Silva move to Manchester City earlier in the window and Tiemoue Bakayoko set to sign for Chelsea.

Lemar, who scored 14 goals and assisted 17 last season, is said to be pushing for a move to Arsenal despite claims last week that he wouldn’t.

He has three years left on his current deal.
