Sky journalist Kaveh Solhekol believes Arsenal’s signing of Alexandre Lacazette will result in Atletico Madrid turning their attentions to Chelsea striker Diego Costa.

As reported in the Daily Star, Atletico Madrid came close to signing Lacazette earlier in the summer but saw the deal break down due to a transfer ban. They were looking to replace Antoine Griezmann but the ban put a halt to any key players being sold as none could immediately come in.

The Spanish La Liga side have missed out on the Frenchman to Arsenal but could look to bring Costa back to the Vicente Calderon, with reports suggesting the Chelsea man is happy to wait six months before being eligible to play.

“Lyon rejected Arsenal’s opening offer of about £39m but a deal is close to being agreed for about €50m, that’s about £44m,” Solhekol told Sky Sports News.

“Lacazette has been on holiday in America but is due to have talks with Lyon today and Lyon’s president expects Lacazette to fly to London for a medical either today or on Wednesday.

“Lacazette moving to Arsenal could have a big impact on the future of Diego Costa. Costa’s been told he can leave Chelsea and he wants to go back to Madrid.

“Atletico are banned from registering players until January but they want to sign him now and keep him until he can play, which will be on January 2.”
