Jose Mourinho has responded to Manchester United’s recent links with Alexis Sanchez… sort of.

  • United linked with move for Alexis
  • Alexis wants Champions League football, which United can offer
  • Mourinho claims he doesn’t know the ‘first thing’ about Alexis despite not being asked

Despite not actually being asked about United’s links with Alexis, Mourinho decided to suggest that they’re not interested in signing the Chilean.

“It is a question for Florentino [Perez, the Real president]. I don’t know the first thing about Sanchez,” he said.

“What I said today is what I say today. Clubs put price tags on players, not the one who wants to buy. He belongs to Madrid. Madrid has decided and we have not come to an agreement. It is simple. It is a shame.

“He is a player who made it to the first-team with me. We have a special liking for him, he is someone special. I enjoyed watching his evolution in Juventus and Madrid. It is like that. I don’t think he can end with us.”

United are just the latest team to be linked with a move for Alexis after the 28-year-old made it clear that he doesn’t see his long-term future in with Arsenal.

However, if the Gunners aren’t going to sell Alexis to Manchester City, the main club in the frame to sign the forward, why on earth would they sell to a United side managed by Mourinho?

Plus, the odds of the Red Devils being in the market for a forward after splashing £75m on Romelu Lukaku don’t look high.
