Napoli midfielder Jorginho will not be leaving this summer, according to his agent.

  • Arsenal were linked with the midfielder
  • They reportedly bid £15m
  • His agent says the play won’t be moving

Arsenal had been linked with the Brazilian midfielder as a possible replacement for the injured Santi Cazorla, and there was talk of a £15m bid being prepared. However, Jorginho’s agent, Joao Santos, has said that the midfielder will not be leaving Napoli this summer.

“Arsenal has not contacted me,” he said, as quoted by Gazetta dello Sport. “Jorginho is happy in Naples. It’s obvious that some teams would be interested him, but he’s only thinking of Napoli. His goal is to do better than last year.

“The more time passes, the more difficult it will be for him to move. There is no release clause in his contract. If a club offers enough money to interest De Laurentiis, he might move.”

Napoli traditionally play hard ball over their players and Arsenal would have to submit a very large offer to convince them to sell. Jorginho is capable of playing in a midfield two and is a tidy passer of the ball, so would do well in Arsenal’s engine room.

But with Jorginho looking set to stay at Napoli, the Gunners may have to look elsewhere.
