Arsenal striker Jodie Taylor scored a historic winner to send England through to the semi-finals of the European Championship.

England beat France to reach the semi-finals of the European Championship thanks to a goal from tournament top scorer Jodie Taylor. It was the first time England had defeated France in 43 years.

Taylor has led the way for the Lionesses this summer, having kicked off the tournament with a hat-trick against Scotland in the group stages. She became the first England striker to score a treble at a Women’s major tournament.

England will now play hosts Netherlands in the semi-finals on August 3. They will now be favourites to win the tournament after overcoming their France hoodoo and with Germany being upset by Denmark.

Taylor joined Arsenal in 2016 after spells in America and Australia. The 31-year-old has had a nomadic career and struggled with injuries. It led to her being overlooked for England, but now she’s proven her worth on the grand stage.

The striker’s international career has gone from strength to strength since Mark Sampson joined as head coach in 2013. Taylor has 14 goals in 28 appearances and is finally regarded as a top-level centre-forward against all odds.
