Gerard Houllier considers Alexandre Lacazette to be better value for money than Anthony Martial or Alvaro Morata.

  • Houllier compared Lacazette to Ian Wright
  • He’s convinced Lacazette will bring goals to the Arsenal team
  • He believes it’s money well spent considering what United could pay for Morata

Lacazette completed his record move to Arsenal on Wednesday and is widely expected to hit the ground running.

While some may doubt his ability to do that, Gerard Houllier, who advised Lyon during the transfer, has no doubt Lacazette will bring goals to the Arsenal team.

“He was the top scorer in France in 2014-15, the best player in the league in 2015 and has been the best French scorer over the last three seasons,” he said to talkSPORT.

“He scores more than 25 goals every season. One thing he will bring to Arsenal is goals. His main asset is to score goals.

“He is a bit like Ian Wright really. You don’t seem to see him and then suddenly he moves.”

He also said that the £52m Arsenal have paid is good value compared to the money Manchester United spent on Anthony Martial, and the money they could spend on Alvaro Morata.

“When you think Anthony Martial cost €80million, Morata is about to cost €90million… Morata hasn’t scored as many goals as Lacazette.

“Morata has played 130 games and scored only 47 goals.”

Arsenal themselves were linked with Morata over the last couple of years, and there were plenty of doubts about his scoring record.

While the transition from Ligue 1 to the Premier League may not be easy, Lacazette at least arrives with an excellent scoring record.
