Reiss Nelson has been pictured in a different squad number, leading to speculation that he may be set for a change.

Having played the first two matches of pre-season wearing the number 61, Nelson was then spotted before the Bayern Munich win wearing a training top with the number 18.

The number 18 shirt is currently occupied by Nacho Monreal, which led to speculation that the two players might both be changing this summer.

It certainly seems to make some sense, Kieran Gibbs (3) and Mathieu Debuchy (2) have been linked with moves away from the club, not appearing on tour so they can try to complete them.

So there are numbers up for grabs for Nacho.

However, in the Bayern match Nelson was back wearing 61, and the players probably aren’t too bothered what number they’re wearing when they’re not out on the pitch.

Maybe Reiss just needed to borrow Monreal’s spare shirt for whatever reason.

After Wenger confirmed that Nelson would be playing more of a first-team role this year, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see a change of number, but at this stage it’s nothing more than speculation.
