The future of Olivier Giroud will depend on Alexis Sanchez and Thomas Lemar.

  • Wenger does not want to sell Giroud while Alexis’ future is unresolved
  • The signing of Lemar could see Alexis leave this summer
  • Giroud offers attacking variety at Arsenal

When Giroud was included in Arsenal squad for their tour of Australia and China, we thought that would be the end the speculation that he could leave the club.

However, according to the Telegraph, nothing is certain on Giroud, and his future appears to be tied with Alexis Sanchez’s. The French striker could still be allowed to leave Arsenal but only if Alexis stays.

Arsene Wenger is apparently worried that selling Giroud straight away could leave him short of attacking options should he not be able to hold onto Alexis as well. Hence, the future of Thomas Lemar is important here, as he could come in as a replacement for Alexis.

It’s all a little convoluted, but what is for certain is that Wenger is a fan of Giroud and what he brings to the team. In an ideal world, he’d want to keep the Frenchman. What’s also certain is that Arsenal do not want to sell Alexis, regardless of if Lemar arrives or not.

There’s a lot still to happen this summer, but for now, Giroud will be playing for Arsenal in Australia and China.
