Olivier Giroud praised Alexandre Lacazette after Arsenal’s win over Western Sydney Wanderers, which may suggests fans’ assumptions of a disliking between the two is untrue.

After opening the scoring against the Sydney-based side in the Gunners’ second pre-season friendly, Giroud wheeled away in celebration, before joining his teammates for high-fives and congratulations.

However, his initial celebration appeared on TV to look like he was ignoring Lacazette’s high-five. More likely, he either didn’t notice Lacazette, or he completed the high-five off camera, since you couldn’t actually see Giroud’s hands for most of the clip.

But of course people on social media took it and ran with it. So it was good to hear Giroud only had praise for his club and international teammate after the game:

“He is a good player so it is always easy to play with this kind of player,” Giroud said, reports the Metro. “We have a good understanding and had the opportunity to play a little bit in training with France. I think he will settle well to the English Premier League.”

Realistically, there is very likely no bad blood between the two players. They aren’t in competition for the national side, with Lacazette and Griezmann being the two players fighting for one spot as Giroud occupies the other.

They’ve only had positive things to say about each other since joining and Lacazette has credited Giroud with helping him settle in.
