Alexis Sánchez has chosen his next destination and it’s Premier League rivals Manchester City.

At least, that’s what reports in Chile’s local newspaper El Mercurio recently claimed.

Alexis’s desire to play UEFA Champions League football has been well-documented in recent months and it seemed inevitable that after the Gunners’ fifth-placed finish last term, he would seek a step-up in quality elsewhere.

Of all the sides interested, City are believed to be his ideal destination and would allow him to reunite with Pep Guardiola, whom he worked under at Barcelona.

The decision is said to have been made during the Confederations Cup, as he promised reporters that he’d come to a decision at the end of the tournament.

El Mercurio have quotes from sources close to the player, all unsurprisingly unnamed, who give reasons why the 28-year-old forward wants to leave Arsenal for pastures new.

Not having European competition at Champions League level is something unordinary for Alexis. He’s much motivated by playing in it, and of course, to win it,” said one of the sources.

Alexis talked to many national teammates in Russia. He told them about the matter… he also spoke to his family. All came to the same conclusion: that the best thing is to finish his cycle at Arsenal and go to Manchester City.

City have already reportedly made a few approaches for Alexis, with the most recent one an apparent £46.5m bid as they look to persuade their rivals to sell. Other less well-covered reports claim Arsenal have yet to receive a single offer for the Chilean.

The fact that Alexis only has twelve months on his existing deal has put Arsenal in a vulnerable situation, stuck as to whether they should sell for profit now or retain him for another season.

There were some reports circling recently which suggested Alexis would be happy to stay at Arsenal for another year before leaving for a club of his choosing this time next year, though more quotes suggested the opposite.

Alexis isn’t willing to do that, for any reason. His idea is to leave right now,” the source continued.

This is an ongoing story and one which has claimed Arsenal are aware of his desire to leave, though the paper don’t specify how or when the Chilean informed them – especially given his comments before the international tournament.
