Former Arsenal midfielder Lassana Diarra has joined UAE side Al-Jazira, the club have announced.

TalkSPORT, among others, are now reporting that he has officially agreed to join the club from Abu Dhabi, Al-Jazira. Hopefully this stage of his career will be more successful.

Diarra only made seven league appearances for the Gunners after joining from Chelsea in 2007. He moved onto Portsmouth the next year, before joining Real Madrid, in a bit of a rollercoaster career.

During his time with Arsenal he took over the number eight shirt, after the departure of Freddie Ljungberg.

Arsène saw him as a versatile player who would make a good addition to the squad, but Mathieu Flamini ended up taking his spot in defensive midfield and Diarra decided to leave North London as a result.

He was released by Marseille in February as the club no longer felt that they needed the player.
