Mathieu Debuchy’s wage demands reportedly prevented a move to Nice going through.

  • Debuchy was due for a medical at Nice, but the deal collapsed
  • His wages are said to be too much for Nice
  • They’ve moved on to other targets instead

The right-back was reportedly close to joining the Ligue 1 side, with the player due for a medical before signing. However, news quickly emerged that the deal had fallen through at a late stage as Nice decided to chase other targets.

According to reports, it was Debuchy’s wage demands that were the cause of that. It’s said that his requests were beyond what Nice could reasonably afford, so they decided to go after other targets, such as former Lyon defender Christophe Jallet.

The development is frustrating for Debuchy and Arsenal, who thought they had finally sorted out a move away. If wages were responsible for the move not happening, it would appear that Debuchy himself isn’t doing everything he can to secure a move away.

Arsenal could resort to terminating his contract early, should he still be unable to find a club as the summer progresses.
