Real Madrid right-back Danilo is nearing a move to Chelsea.

  • Danilo sees Chelsea move as an opportunity to become a first choice right back
  • He’s been second-fiddle to Carvajal at Real Madrid
  • He was linked with Arsenal earlier this summer

The Brazilian has failed to establish himself as Madrid’s first choice right back since arriving from Porto in 2015 for £27.5m.

After making 41 appearances in all competitions across his two seasons, and being behind regular Dani Carvajal, Danilo is said to be pushing for a sale to Chelsea.

Danilo could be first choice in Antonio Conte’s 3-4-3 system. Chelsea are said to have made a £26m bid.

Arsenal were linked with the Brazilian earlier this summer after it became apparent they could need a new right-back.

Backup options Carl Jenkinson and Mathieu Debuchy are already expected to leave the club, leaving Hector Bellerin as the only recognised right back in the squad.

However, it’s never been Arsenal’s approach to spend huge amounts of money on players who wouldn’t be first choice.

Although Barcelona made every effort to sign Bellerin this summer, the Gunners made it clear the Spaniard was not going anywhere.

With Arsenal set to start next season playing a 3-4-3, the likes of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Ainsley Maitland-Niles will likely provide cover for the absent Bellerin.
