Crystal Palace have reportedly emerged as favourites to sign Calum Chambers this summer.

Despite only signing for Arsenal from Southampton for £16m in 2014, Chambers is already allegedly thinking about heading for the exit after failing to secure first team football since the move.

Palace, as well as Everton and Newcastle, are said to be interested in signing the defender on a permanent deal, with Arsenal thought to be asking for £15m for the 22-year-old.

Chambers went out on loan at Middlesbrough last season where he impressed, making 26 appearances, scoring once and assisting once, despite spending 65 days sidelined through injury.

This obviously gave him a taste of what playing week in, week out felt like and although he’s got three years left on his Arsenal deal, when asked about his future while away with the England u21s this summer, he refused to answer, sparking speculation that he could indeed be leaving.

He later said, “I had a thoroughly enjoyable year there (at Boro); I played regularly and got some valuable experiences that I’m gaining from.

“In this tournament I feel the experiences I got this year and the game time I got this year are helping me and I want to take that forward.

“Next season I want to do the same. I want to play football, and I think it’s vital at this age – as a young player – to play as many games as possible to get experience.”
