Chelsea could turn to Alexis Sanchez to replace Diego Costa if they miss out on Romelu Lukaku, according to reports.

Romelu Lukaku has been strongly linked to Manchester United in the last week, with rumours of a bid being accepted, followed by pictures of Lukaku spending his holiday with Pogba. As a result Chelsea have been left in a difficult situation, having already asked their first-choice striker to leave, and having seemingly missed the chance to bring in their top transfer target.

The Telegraph are reporting that they have therefore turned their attentions to Real Madrid’s Alvaro Morata and Arsenal’s Alexis Sanchez. Morata is no surprise, since he has been linked with United, so if they’ve moved onto Lukaku then Chelsea have the free run at him.

In terms of Alexis, all the noise coming out of the club is that they don’t want to sell him to a Premier League club. If they have a suitable replacement in mind and a large bid comes in, this could potentially change, as it would be better for the club to have someone tied down long-term than to lose Alexis for nothing next year.

But the club have no financial need to sell, and they won’t let the fans go through a van Persie situation all over again.

Right?
