Chelsea are interested in CSKA Moscow midfielder Aleksandr Golovin, who has been linked with Arsenal over the summer.

Golovin is 21 years old and represented Russia at the Confederations Cup, which is where the Arsenal rumours first began after football agent Sandor Varga, in quotes reported by the Mirror, told Sports Daily Russia:

Arsene Wenger called me and asked me to watch Golovin again. He was going to come but his scout in Russia sent him 6 to 8 positive reports and so he asked me to watch him instead.

He appeared in all of Russia’s group stage matches until they were knocked out of the competition, and at his young age he has already made 85 appearances for club and country. He is valued at about £10m, and according to the Mirror Chelsea have also shown an interest and are preparing a bid.

Central midfield is one area where the Gunners are looking to strengthen over the summer, and it certainly wouldn’t be surprising to see them move for a player with potential such as Golovin, to combine with other more experienced signings. Especially if they can pick him up for such a low price.

However there seem to have been little developments in this saga since the start of the Confederations Cup when the rumours first surfaced, so for now it doesn’t seem as though the interest from Arsenal was more than just that, interest.
