Roma have chosen Riyad Mahrez to replace Mohamed Salah, according to reports, and could beat Arsenal to his signature.

Mahrez has been widely expected to make a move after his statement saying he wanted to leave Leicester. Arsenal were linked, particularly after Wenger said in a BeIN SPORTS interview that he liked the Algerian, but so far it seems no bids have been made by the Gunners.

Now Roma have been reported to have made a move, with a view to replacing Mohamed Salah who left for Liverpool. The Mirror reports that Roma bid £20m for Mahrez but Leicester have put a £50m price tag on him.

With the clubs still so far apart in their valuations of the player, it doesn’t seem like a deal will be done any time soon. But if Mahrez continues to push for a move then Leicester may have to lower their valuation.

Arsenal would still probably have a good chance of completing a deal if the club made a bid, but at this stage it doesn’t seem that they’ve acted on the initial interest, perhaps as a result of this high valuation.
