An Arsenal XI thrashed Boreham Wood 4-0 last night.

Arsenal fielded a team that was a mixture of U23 players and fringe first team players that are in the shop window.

Mathieu Debuchy played as one of the three centre backs, with Carl Jenkinson playing right wing back and Chuba Akpom leading the line.

Krystian Bielik, Cohen Bramall, and Eddie Nketiah, who went on tour with Arsenal to Australia and China, all featured. Julio Pleguezuelo, Jon Toral and Stephy Mavididi, who were on loan last season, also featured.

It was a one-sided game, with Akpom giving Arsenal an early lead from the penalty spot. Akpom turned provider for the second goal, laying on a pass for Mavididi to finish. Jon Toral made it 3-0 before the break, tapping in a rebounded effort from Nketiah.

Arsenal continued to control the game in the second half. Mavididi, who scored plenty of goals for the Arsenal U23s last season, wrapped up the scoring with his second of the night.

The match was held to commemorate the opening of Boreham Wood’s new pitch.

Arsene Wenger and Ivan Gazidis were both in attendance to cut the ribbon on the pitch and run the rule over the young players in action.

Toral and Akpom both performed well and will have done their chances of securing a move away from Arsenal some good.

Meanwhile, the likes of Debuchy and Jenkinson would have gotten some useful minutes under their belts so they don’t turn up at their new clubs completely out of shape.
