The Belo Horizonte Youth Cup has been the platform for some of Brazil’s biggest stars to showcase their talents ahead of big money moves to Europe. In the past, the likes of Neymar, Ronaldo, Rivaldo and Ronaldinho have all featured and have since had pretty good careers.

Understandably, Arsenal, as well Manchester City and Manchester United, have sent scouts to watch this year’s edition. A recent example of success there is Flamengo attacker Vinicius Junior, who scored six goals in the 2016 edition before being purchased by Real Madrid for £40m.

While there is undoubtedly a lot of top talent on show, English clubs find it very difficult to sign Brazilian players at a young age due to work permit issues. They often spend years out on loan else where without ever settling at the club, as was the case with Wellington Silva.

Nonetheless, the difficulty may be worth it if Arsenal manage to uncover the next star.
