Arsenal are reportedly still keen to sign Sporting Lisbon midfielder William Carvalho this summer and will make a £27m bid to procure his signature.

Despite Sporting’s previous insistence that Arsenal should up their valuation of the 25-year-old to stand a chance of signing him, latest reports from Record suggest the Portuguese Primeira Liga side are willing to accept less money with Carvalho keen to leave ahead of the new season.

Arsenal came close to a deal in 2015/16 but his asking price stood in the way of the transfer ever being completed. The Gunners have long admired the combative midfielder and are looking to bolster their current options with the likes of Mohamed Eleny and Jack Wilshere set to leave this summer.

Carvalho, who made 32 league appearances last season, is said to be open to an exit from the Estádio José Alvalade. He won the UEFA European Championships with Portugal a year ago and featured in the Champions League in 2016/17.
