Barcelona’s Arda Turan has been linked with a move away to his former club Galatasaray, after rumours of Arsenal’s interest failed to progress.

Turkish newspaper Hurriyet have claimed Turan’s old club has offered the attacking-midfielder the chance to return to Turkey on loan, reports Football.London.

Arsenal were most strongly linked with Turan earlier in the window, most likely as a result of the uncertainty over Özil’s future and the potential need to find an experienced replacement.

However, with the German international looking more likely to stay, at least for the current season, the rumours have now died down.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has long stated he will only sign a player if he feels they can improve the side. As a result, it wouldn’t be worth paying £26m for somebody playing second-fiddle to the likes of Ozil.

Turan’s agent insisted earlier in the summer that the player would remain at the Nou Camp, says the Express. This made it seem unlikely the 30-year-old would leave, but now reports are suggesting a temporary move may be on the cards.

The Barcelona man has spent two seasons at the club, appearing in less than 50% of their league games. He had his best goalscoring season in 2016/17, however, scoring 13 goals in all competitions.

Turan was also particularly influential in Barca’s successful cup run, scoring four goals in five appearances. There’s hardly any suggestion Arsenal are chasing the former Turkish international, but it’s possible Turan may look for more game time to capitalise on his improving form.
