Arsenal have reportedly had an £86m bid rejected for Sporting Lisbon duo William Carvalho and Gelson Martins.

  • Arsenal have had long-standing interest in Carvalho
  • Martins in a winger who can also play as a full back
  • Sporting have reportedly knocked back bid

Even though everyone knows who Arsenal’s main targets are at the moment, Portuguese press seems to think the Gunners are after two young players from Portugal as well.

According to the Mirror, a £86m bid for Sporting Lisbon duo William Carvalho and Gelson Martins has been rejected.

Carvalho will be a familiar name to Arsenal fans. The midfielder has been consistently linked with Arsenal over the years and is one of those mythical names that was close to joining but never did.

Martins is a new name. He’s been linked with Liverpool and Manchester United and can play full back as well on the wing. £86m is a lot of money for two young players and it seems weird that Sporting, known for selling talent to Europe, would reject it if true.

It’s more likely that Arsenal, currently involved in a couple of big money moves for other players, never made the bid in the first place.
