Arsenal are reportedly interested in bringing Kalidou Koulibaly to the Emirates and are willing to let go of Calum Chambers as a result.

Koulibaly has been linked with Arsenal in the past and is a highly-rated centre-backs in Serie A. As a result, Napoli aren’t going to be likely to want to let him go, and reports suggest the player himself isn’t particularly convinced by a move to the Premier League.

However, they also claim Arsenal representatives reached out to the Italian side over the possibility of a move, with Arsène Wenger apparently looking to add a centre-back to his first team options.

Arsenal have no great shortage in defence, even with Gabriel injured and Per Mertesacker in his last year as a player, so any arrival would almost certainly be matched by a departure. Sky Sports believe Crystal Palace are interested in Calum Chambers and Arsenal would be willing to sell for the right price.

The 22-year-old defender spent last year on loan at Middlesbrough as game time in the Arsenal side looked slim. With pretty much the same defensive setup this summer, barring Sead Kolašinac’s addition, Chambers is roughly the same situation ahead of the 2017/18 season.

The formation change might help to get him chances, but to be sure of a place in a team he might consider a move to a team like Palace. If so, Arsenal would be looking for around £20m, which, when combined with the impending sale of Wojciech Szczęsny, could free up enough cash to make a big money move for a defender like Koulibaly.
